Community Safety Survey

The survey was answered by 58 people. Click here to see the complete survey and the basic results.

We also looked at some questions broken down by factors such as gender, area and age. Some of these are outlined below:

Question 1: Do you generally feel safe on the streets at night? was analysed by gender and area. There was no difference between areas, but more men than women answered yes, as the graphs below show.

Question 3: Do you feel safer on the streets in your neighbourhood than you did a year ago? The overall figure for this question is 50% yes, 50% no. However, as the following graph shows, a greater proportion of men answered yes.

Question 5: Do you feel safe in your own home? The overall figure for this question is 87% yes, 13% no. Again, however, a greater proportion of men answered yes.

Question 18: Has the problem of burnt out cars or dumping improved in the last year?
Question 18a: If you answered no, has it got worse?
These questions were analysed by area. Here there is a significant difference between Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb. As the graphs below show, a majority think the situation has improved in Whitehawk, whilst in Moulseccomb, the majority think the problem has not improved.

Question 19: Do you think crime in general has reduced in the last year?
Question 24: Have you seen or met your local police officer?
These questions were also analysed by area, and show an even greater difference between Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb.

Note: As the overall numbers involved are not very large, caution should be exercised in drawing conclusions from the results presented here.
